Plot: Peretop is a quiet little town: if anything illegal ever happens at all, it’s something quite insignificant, and is quickly dealt with by the local district police officer Nikolai Petrovich Zabotin or – as locals simply call him – Petrovich.

But one day a general’s son Dima Stechkin comes to Peretop from the capital for training. He is appointed Petrovich’s assistant. Instantly lieutenant Stechkin starts to get on nerves of everyone around because of his excessively formal approach and youthful perfectionism. On his very first day on the job the young policeman manages to see crime even in ordinary neighbors’ bickering, and to pack the small cell in the town prison with the “criminals”. Petrovich has nothing to do but rush around the town and set straight everything his assistant has done.

In each episode the Peretop cops are in confrontation, forced to show their best qualities: inventiveness, wit and sense of humor. But the main question of the series is – will Petrovich and the general’s son find a way to get along or does the Peretop police station have place for only one district officer?
